NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at Portland

(Sunday, November 28th)

Final Score: Portland 83, New Jersey 71

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph had 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers past the New Jersey Nets, 83-71.

Derek Anderson added 21 points while Shareef Abdur-Rahim collected 17 points and 10 rebounds. Portland won for the third time in four games despite shooting just 35 percent from the field.

"Well, it was a win," Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "It started out looking like the game in Jersey. We couldn't score, but they couldn't score either. But in the second half, we got a couple of easy baskets that turned the game around."

The stumbling Nets are losers of nine straight games for the first time since November 22-December 6, 2000. New Jersey shot just 38 percent from the field and were outrebounded 51-40 en route to the loss.

"Look at what's going on in the world today," said Nets' center Alonzo Mourning, putting his team's tough run into perspective. "Turn on that TV and see those dead bodies over in Iraq, see those veterans in Bethesda trying to walk with prosthesis, young women who got their arms blown off over there and we're stressing out over a game."

Both teams had serious trouble scoring in this game. The Nets led 10-9 after one quarter of play, before the Blazers took a 40-35 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Abdur-Rahim hit a 21-foot jumper to cap a 16-1 run that put the Blazers up 46-32 with 4:46 left. Portland cruised thereafter, as the Nets never threatened.

Richard Jefferson led the Nets with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Travis Best added 15 points and Eric Williams 14.

Game Notes

The Nets bench shot just 4-for-23 from the field, while the Blazers' reserves were just 5-for-21...Portland has dominated the series at the Rose Garden. The Nets have dropped eight of nine and 16 of their last 18 matchups in Portland. New Jersey is just 4-26 all-time as the visitor in the series.
