NBA Game Summary - Utah at San Antonio

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Malik Rose scored 16 points off the bench to lead six players in double figures, as the San Antonio Spurs demolished the Utah Jazz, 109-76, at the SBC Center.
Manu Ginobili had 15 points and Tim Duncan added 12 and a game-high 13 rebounds for the 11-3 Spurs, who have won three straight overall and 18 in a row against the Jazz. Tony Parker and Devin Brown each netted 14 points, while Bruce Bowen contributed 11 in the win.
Matt Harpring paced Utah with 15 points and Gordan Giricek scored 14 for the Jazz, losers of three of their last four games. Utah has dropped 12 straight at San Antonio and 19 of the past 20 meetings overall.
"They started out just like I thought they would," Utah head coach Jerry Sloan said of San Antonio's 21-6 start to the game. "They came out and tried to destroy us."
Utah suffered a huge blow to its starting lineup when forward Andrei Kirilenko went down with a sprained right knee at the 9:08 mark of the second quarter. He ended with zero points in nine minutes and his future status is unknown.
The Spurs put the tune out of the Jazz early and jingled to a 28-10 lead after one quarter of play. San Antonio then outscored Utah 26-18 in the second quarter and headed to the locker room with a comfortable 54-28 halftime lead.
"Our defense is getting better and better," Parker said. "You really have to focus on taking care of the ball when you build a big lead. We were up 20 in Toronto (last week) and lost."
Ginobili's basket with about seven minutes to go in the third quarter staked the Spurs to a commanding 67-37 lead. Utah managed to outscore the Spurs by a 30-27 margin in the third but trailed by an 81-58 score after 36 minutes.
San Antonio then buried the Jazz in the fourth quarter, outscoring them by a 28-18 margin to claim a 33-point triumph.
San Antonio shot a sizzling 59 percent from the field, while the Jazz made 44 percent of their shots...The Spurs had a 37-24 edge on the boards...Mehmet Okur scored 10 points off the bench for Utah...The Spurs are off to their best start since the 1999-00 squad opened the season 14-3.
