Final Score: Chicago 96, Memphis 88
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Eddy Curry poured in a team-high 20 points, Kirk Hinrich added 15 and Chicago earned a rare road win by beating Memphis, 96-88, at the FedExForum.
Ben Gordon came off the bench to add 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting for the Bulls, who won just their second road game of the season. Tyson Chandler had a solid all around game, netting nine points with a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Pau Gasol paced Memphis with a game-high 24 points. Mike Miller added 12 while James Posey and Bonzi Wells each contributed 10 for Memphis, which has dropped two straight and three of four.
Jason Williams, who was activated off the injured list prior to the game, also scored 10 points in 23 minutes in the setback.
"We did not convert. We missed dunks, and we had careless turnovers," Memphis head coach Mike Fratello said. "It was definitely agony to watch. I don't think this team is in any way representing this franchise."
Trailing 48-44 at the break, Chicago proved pesky and chipped away at the lead late in the third. Back-to-back three-pointers by Hinrich helped the Bulls eventually take a 69-68 edge with 1:19 left in the stanza. The Bulls then carried a 71-70 lead into the fourth quarter.
"I definitely noticed that they didn't really have that same bounce and that same fire that they had at the beginning of the game," Curry said.
Hinrich's hot hand carried the Bulls in the fourth as his trey pushed Chicago's advantage to 78-72 with 10:14 remaining in the contest. Chicago then started to pull away midway through the frame as two free throws by Chandler pushed the Bulls' edge to 87-76 at the 6:17 mark of the fourth.
Memphis, though, cut the deficit to 92-85 on Lorenzen Wright's bucket with 2:09 to go. However, that was as close as the Grizzlies would get the rest of the way en route to the eight-point loss.
The Bulls shot 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, while Memphis hit 7-of-21 from three-point land.
The Grizzlies held a 27-23 lead after 12 minutes of action. A 14-6 flurry to start the second gave Memphis some breathing room. Earl Watson's trey capped the spurt, staking Memphis to a 41-29 lead with under seven minutes left in the first half.
The Bulls, though, fought back and closed out the half by outscoring Memphis by a 15-7 margin, trimming the deficit to 48-44 as both teams headed into the locker room.
