NBA Game Summary - Toronto at LA Clippers

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Marko Jaric led the way with 23 points while Corey Maggette added 22, as the Los Angeles Clippers topped the Toronto Raptors, 101-89, at the Staples Center.
Elton Brand chipped in 19 points for the Clippers, who at 5-3 are off to their best start since 1995. Chris Wilcox and Bobby Simmons, the other two LA starters, also finished in double figures with 14 and 10, respectively.
Vince Carter poured in 21 points for Toronto, which has lost three straight and four of five after starting the campaign at 4-0. Lamond Murray posted 12 points off the bench and Rafer Alston added 11 in the losing effort.
The Clippers came out of the locker room for the third quarter holding a six- point edge, but used the stanza to jump out to a huge lead and they never looked back.
"We did a good job offensively," said Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy.
At one point the Clippers held a 26-point advantage and used a 23-4 run to pull away. They outscored the visitors by a 29-12 margin in the stanza. Brand and Maggette each contributed heavily and led the way for the Clippers.
Despite a 30-19 Toronto surge over the course of the final frame, it was not enough as the Raptors could not make up the difference.
Toronto completed the fifth of a six-game road trip and will conclude the run with a trip to Denver on Wednesday.
The Clippers held a six-point lead after the first quarter, but the Raptors held on and matched LA's 20-point output in the second to go into the break trailing 53-47.
As for shooting, the Clippers were 52 percent from the floor, including 5- for-7 from three-point range. Toronto, meanwhile, shot just 42 percent from the field and just 24 percent (4-of-17) from beyond the arc.
Maggette has scored in double-digits in all eight of the Clippers' games this season...LA improved to 2-1 at home this season...Last season, the teams split a pair of contests...The Raptors won the battle on the glass, 40-34...The leading rebounder in the contest was Wilcox with nine.
