NBA Game Summary - New York at New Jersey

Final Score: New York 87, New Jersey 79

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Jamal Crawford poured in a game-high 30 points, Kurt Thomas added 14 with 12 rebounds and New York held off New Jersey, 87-79, at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Stephon Marbury and Jerome Williams each added 12 points for the Knicks, who have won two in a row and three of four.

Richard Jefferson netted a team-high 21 points with 10 boards for Nets, who had a brief two-game winning streak snapped. Eric Williams added 21 and Jason Kidd collected 22.

"They (New York) were the better team tonight," said Kidd.

Leading 71-64 after three quarters of play, New York started to pull away in the fourth. Two free throws by Crawford, who ended 10-of-11 from the line, staked the Knicks to a 79-67 lead with 3:44 left in the contest.

New Jersey fought back and trimmed the deficit to four when Kidd connected with a three, pulling New Jersey to within 83-79 with 39 seconds left in the game.

The Knicks, though, connected on 4-of-4 from the line down the stretch for the final margin.

"I thought we showed a lot of character with our defense," said New York head coach Lenny Wilkens. "The sign of a good team is you do not quit."

The Nets jumped out to a comfortable 20-7 lead on Jefferson's basket with under six minutes left in the opening frame. New York, though, responded by closing the quarter on a 18-8 flurry, trimming the deficit to 28-25.

The Knicks then opened the second quarter on a 16-9 spurt, turning a three- point deficit into a four-point lead. Moochie Norris' two free throws capped the run, staking New York to a 41-37 edge. The Knicks stretch lead to 49-43 as both teams headed into the locker room.

Crawford led all players with 15 points, while Williams led the Nets with 11 points at the break.

New Jersey used an 8-2 run to pull even in the third. Jefferson's short baseline jumper made it 51-51 with around nine minutes remaining in the stanza.

However, a bucket by Tim Thomas ignited a 20-13 run by the visitor's to end the frame. Marbury and Crawford highlighted the spurt with back-to-back trey's as the Knicks took a seven-point lead into the final frame.

Game Notes

The Knicks improved to just 4-8 in foreign buildings this season...The Nets went 15:03 between the third and fourth quarter before hitting their first field goal. It did not come until the 3:02 mark of the fourth on a Kidd jumper... New York snapped a seven-game losing streak at New Jersey...New York's Allan Houston played 11 minutes and ended with three points.
