NBA Game Summary - Golden State at Cleveland
(Monday, November 15th)
Final Score: Cleveland 99, Golden State 88
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - LeBron James scored 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 99-88 win over the Golden State Warriors at Gund Arena.
Cleveland's Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 16 points and seven rebounds while scoring five straight points to spark a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter after the Warriors tied the contest at 81-81.
Jeff McInnis tallied 20 points for the Cavs, who have won four straight after dropping their first three of the season to move over .500 for the first time in the James era.
"That's a little goal to us right now, we've got bigger goals in mind," said McInnis about the team going over .500 for the first time since January 12, 2001 when the Cavs were 17-16.
Jason Richardson scored 27 points to lead the Warriors, who have dropped seven of their first eight games. Derek Fisher added 15 points and seven assists off the bench as Golden State ended a five-game road trip 1-4.
"We didn't play badly until about the last five minutes," said Warriors head coach Mike Montgomery. "Of course, that's when it's most important (to play well)."
With the game close throughout, Cleveland began to pull away midway through the fourth. After Fisher knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 81-81 with 7:48 remaining, Ilgauskas sparked the Cavs.
The center first hit a layup, was fouled, and converted the three-point play for an 84-81 lead. He then drained another basket after the Warriors came up empty on the offensive end as Cleveland began to pull away.
James, who was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, then drained a pair of free throws with 5:01 remaining to extend the lead to seven points.
Golden State later drew within four points on a Richardson jumper with 3:11 remaining, but Ilgauskas again tempered the threat with a jumper of his own on the Cavs next possession.
James missed the second of two free throws in the final seconds that would have given Cleveland 100 points and everyone in attendance a free chalupa.
"We're just executing, we're playing defense," said James of the Cavs' streak. "Sometimes we aren't able to make shots in the fourth quarter, but we are able to step up with the defense and stay with it."
Drew Gooden ended with six points and 13 rebounds for Cleveland, which trailed 29-24 after one quarter but carried a 49-47 lead into halftime.
Clifford Robinson had 13 points and Mike Dunleavy tallied 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Warriors, who went into the fourth down 75-71.
