Final Score: LA Clippers 97, Chicago 96
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Corey Maggette scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers over the Chicago Bulls, 97-96, at the United Center.
Marko Jaric added 19 points and eight assists for the Clippers, who came back from a 24-point deficit to win their second game in three tries. It was the biggest comeback on the road in franchise history.
"We did a really great job of staying tough and not giving up," said LA head coach Mike Dunleavy.
Eddy Curry tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls, who started a season with four straight losses for the first time since the 2000-2001 campaign. That team, under the direction of Tim Floyd, began 0-5 and finished 15-67.
The Hornets (0-6) are the only the other team without a victory.
The Clippers trailed by as many as 49-25 in the second quarter, but responded with a 20-4 run to get back into the game. Maggette capped it off on a three- point play with 42 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 53-45.
With 3:08 remaining in the third, the Clippers grabbed their first lead since the opening minutes when Jaric drained a pair of free throws that put LA ahead, 69-67.
The game was knotted at 76-76 after three quarters, but the Clippers started the fourth frame on an 11-1 burst to grab their biggest lead of the game and they were in front the rest of the way. Chris Wilcox completed the run on a dunk with 7:25 left to play that made it an 87-77 contest.
The closest the Bulls came to was within one, but it was the final shot of the game when Kirk Hinrich drilled a meaningless three.
The Clippers only shot 42 percent from the field and lost the battle on the glass, 46-41. But they took care of the basketball, only turning it over 11 times.
The Bulls led 34-21 after the opening 12 minutes and then started the second on a 15-4 spurt to take a 24-point advantage.
Tyson Chandler netted 17 points and 13 boards in the defeat.
