(Friday, December 10th)
Final Score: Minnesota 113, Sacramento 105
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Kevin Garnett poured in 35 points, hauled in 18 rebounds and dished out nine assists to lead Minnesota to a 113-105 win over Sacramento at the Target Center.
Eddie Griffin added 18 points and seven boards while Sam Cassell chipped in 15 points for the Timberwolves, who have won seven of their last eight games.
Chris Webber returned to the lineup and scored 25 points with seven rebounds for the Kings, who had their five-game winning streak halted. Mike Bibby contributed 21 points and seven assists while Bobby Jackson netted 19 in the loss.
The Kings led by six after three quarters, but things fell apart for them in the final period.
Griffin's three-pointer with 9:45 left tied the score at 87-87 and Minnesota continued its fourth-quarter surge as Griffin's layup just past the midpoint gave the T-wolves a 101-97 advantage.
Cassell's jumper from the top of the arc stretched the cushion to 105-98 with 3:55 remaining and he added a runner in the lane moments later to make it a nine-point game. Trenton Hassell's dunk with 2:48 left made it 109-98 and capped a 20-5 run and sealed the win.
"We didn't do what we needed to do in the last six, seven minutes," said Sacramento head coach Rick Adelman. "They executed well. We left (Fred) Hoiberg open and made a mistake on him."
The Timberwolves outscored Sacramento 37-23 in the fourth.
"We had 'em," Webber said. "Their energy went up and we didn't keep our groove. And when they're feeding off their crowd, you know they're going to try to make a run."
The Kings started out strong and Webber's layup with just under five minutes left in the first quarter gave the club a 16-7 lead. The margin grew to 11 points moments later and Sacramento enjoyed a 28-18 edge after one.
Minnesota came back in the second as Garnett's bucket with around three minutes left in the period cut the deficit to 46-44. However, the Kings quickly used a 6-0 spurt to pull ahead by eight. The Kings took a 54-48 lead into the locker room.
Bibby scored 15 points in the first half, while Garnett poured in 18 points and grabbed 13 boards for Minnesota in the opening 24 minutes.
"The luxury of this team is that I'm like Peyton Manning," Garnett said. "My job is to get everybody touches. Granted, I make the game easier for a lot of people."
The teams played even in the third quarter and Sacramento carried an 82-76 advantage into the final period.
Webber missed Tuesday's game with a sore left knee...Minnesota has won five straight in this series, including a 121-110 win at ARCO Arena earlier in the season...The Timberwolves have also captured four of the last five meetings at home.
