NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Miami

(Thursday, November 11th)

Final Score: Dallas 113, Miami 93

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 41 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 113-93 win over the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Nowitzki shot 12-of-24 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and was a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line for the Mavs, who rebounded from their lone loss of the season on Tuesday night to improve to 5-1 this year.

Marquis Daniels added 22 points for Dallas, which was playing its first game since placing guard Michael Finley on the injured list earlier in the day with a sprained right ankle.

"(Nowitzki) put on quite a show," said Dallas head coach Don Nelson. "I thought we had our best offensive effort of the season today. Dirk made every shot. It makes it kind of easy coaching a team that is making all their shots."

Shaquille O'Neal had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat, who suffered their first loss in five games this season. O'Neal became the 20th player in league history to reach the 22,000-point plateau, finishing the game with 22,002 points in just 814 contests.

"I thought we got Shaq's best game so far," said Heat head coach Stan Van Gundy. "He worked really hard down low, it was the best game he has had for us this year."

Dwyane Wade added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Miami, but left the game early with a sprained left ankle. X-rays taken after the game were negative.

Leading the entire way and by 13 points (95-82) to start the fourth quarter, Dallas put the game well out of reach with a 13-2 run. An Alan Henderson basket with 6 1/2 minutes remaining capped the run and the Mavs coasted from there.

Dallas led by as many as 26 points in beating the Heat for the seventh time in nine outings.

The Mavs had lost to Orlando on Tuesday night, 94-84, to start a four-game road trip.

Dallas took control from the opening tip, scoring the first two points and 25 of the initial 33. Nowitzki, who scored 10 points during the 25-8 burst, capped it with a pair of free throws at the 4:18 mark, and the Mavericks carried a 15-point lead into the second, 34-19.

Miami attempted to make it a game in the second, scoring the first five points to draw within 10. A Malik Allen dunk with just about three minutes elapsed got the Heat to 39-30 and Miami drew within eight, 50-42, on a Damon Jones three-pointer with a little less than six minutes left in the half. From there, the Heat couldn't get any closer and went into the break down 71-59.

In the third, the Mavs raced out to a 24-point lead courtesy of a 18-6 burst to start the stanza. Nowitzki scored six points during the run and Daniels' jumper with 5:39 remaining ended the spurt to give Dallas an 89-65 cushion.

Miami answered by scoring 17 of the final 23 points to go into the final quarter down only 95-82. O'Neal had eight points and Keyon Dooling added five during the run.

The Heat had a 14-game home winning streak that dated back to last season come to an end.
