NBA Game Summary - Miami at Utah

(Monday, December 6th)

Final Score: Miami 100, Utah 80

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade poured in 23 points and Damon Jones drained a career-high seven three-pointers as Miami rolled to a 100-80 victory over slumping Utah at the Delta Center.

Jones finished 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in a 21-point effort for the Heat, who had lost two of three coming in. Shaquille O'Neal added 21 points and 13 boards and surpassed the 10,000 career rebound mark in the triumph.

"Tonight was one of the first times we came out and we played a good solid 48 (minutes)," said O'Neal. "We knew we needed this win."

Matt Harpring led the Jazz with 12 points, while Carlos Boozer compiled 11 points and 10 rebounds. Carlos Arroyo dished out 11 assists for Utah, which has dropped five straight and nine of 11 after a 6-1 start to the year.

After Mehmet Okur's jump shot cut Miami's lead to 58-57 at the 7:24 mark of the third, the Heat put together a 19-2 run over the next five minutes to break open the contest. Jones hit consecutive three-pointers to put Miami up 72-59 with under five minutes to go in the stanza and Wade sank one of two foul shots to lengthen the margin to 14 points.

Wade then threw down a high-flying dunk with 3:15 left in the quarter before O'Neal capped the flurry with a jam less than a minute later for a 77-59 game.

"That was probably the best stretch I think that we've played all season," Wade said.

Jones' final three of the night extended the cushion to 20 points, 86-66, with under nine minutes remaining and Utah never threatened over the rest of the night.

"When you have Shaq and Dwyane Wade attacking at all times, teams are going to have to adjust," Jones remarked. "Tonight, Utah chose to double-team and I was able to get open looks."

Miami jumped out to an 18-5 lead midway through the first quarter, with O'Neal sparking a 9-0 run with back-to-back buckets, and held a comfortable 29-17 advantage after the first 12 minutes.

Utah began to claw back with a strong second quarter. Kris Humphries, who scored eight points during the period, brought the Jazz to within a point with a jumper which made the score 43-42 with 2:19 remaining in the half. Jones then buried a trey on the ensuing possession to put Miami up by four and the Heat took a 49-46 edge into the break.

The Heat shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) for the game and made 9-of-16 shots from long distance.
