NBA Game Summary - Boston at Sacramento

(Sunday, December 5th)

Final Score: Sacramento 119, Boston 105

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Peja Stojakovic netted 27 points and Brad Miller added 22 with 10 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Boston Celtics, 119-105, at ARCO Arena.

Stojakovic shot 10-of-18 while Chris Webber collected 18 points and 10 boards to pace four others in double figures for the Kings, winners of four in a row and 11 of their last 12 games. Mike Bibby scored 15 and dished out 10 assists.

Mark Blount posted 18 points with eight rebounds for the Celtics, who saw their three-game win streak come to an end. Raef LaFrentz had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Paul Pierce chipped in 16 points. Boston has now dropped nine straight in Sacramento and 12 of its last 13 visits to ARCO.

The Celtics poured in 36 points in the opening quarter for an 18-point lead, but their performance deteriorated from that point on. After tallying 27 in the second period, they posted 17 in the third and were suddenly down 93-80 heading into the final stanza.

"We started off slow," Bibby said. "We knew they were gonna try to run on us early. We finally woke up and we did a better job of getting back [on defense] in the second half."

It only got worse from there as Sacramento began the fourth with a 13-2 run to lead 106-82 less than six minutes in. Stojakovic ignited the charge with a layup, then added a three for good measure before heading to the bench.

The final margin made the game closer than it seemed, as Boston narrowed the margin in garbage time.

Boston's offense was at full throttle in the early stages. Pierce and LaFrentz keyed a string of 11 consecutive points on the way to a 17-6 edge less than five minutes in. Pierce finished with 10 points in the first quarter while LaFrentz and Payton chipped in eight apiece.

The Kings really caught fire in second frame, tallying 24 points in the final six minutes alone. Trailing 48-34, Stojakovic got things going with a shot from long range while Miller had a team-high 14 points at the break, but the Celtics still led 63-55 at halftime.

Sacramento recorded 75 points over the second and third periods. The Kings registered 35 total assists, compared to just 12 for the Celtics.
