NBA Game Summary - Indiana at Golden State
(Saturday, December 4th)
Final Score: Golden State 104, Indiana 96
Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Jason Richardson netted 14 of his 19 points in the second half to help the Golden State Warriors hold on to a 104-96 victory over the Indiana Pacers, spoiling Reggie Miller's season debut at The Arena.
Troy Murphy recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds and Mickael Pietrus came off the bench to score 15 in just 18 minutes as the Warriors had six players in double figures to snap a four-game skid. Speedy Claxton finished with 13 points and six assists for Golden State, which earned its first win over a team above .500 this season.
"We have a lot of guys that can score and make shots," said forward Mike Dunleavy, who chipped in 10 points. "We just have to move the ball around and have fun."
Miller missed the first 15 games with a broken hand and sat out Friday's loss in Sacramento to serve his one-game suspension for his role in the infamous melee in Detroit on November 19. Miller was in street clothes that night but was disciplined for leaving the bench during the fracas.
The time off didn't affect his outside touch as Miller shot 8-of-12 for 23 points to lead the Pacers, who ended a disastrous West Coast trip at 0-4. Miller made 4-of-6 from three-point land, but the rest of the team was a dismal 1-for-13.
"It would have been nice to win one or two of the these game out west," Miller said.
Austin Croshere had 19 points with 14 rebounds while Jamaal Tinsley posted 18 points and 11 assists before leaving the game with a mildly sprained ankle.
Golden State outscored Indiana by a 28-18 margin in the second quarter and maintained the lead the rest of the way.
With the game deadlocked at 37-37 five minutes in, the Warriors scored 19 of the final 29 points in the stanza. Derek Fisher's three-pointer 28 seconds before the half made it 56-47 heading into the break.
Richardson's dunk early in the third period gave Golden State its largest cushion of the night at 62-47, but a 14-3 Pacers surge capped by David Harrison's three-point play midway through narrowed the gap to just four points.
Miller connected from long range with 4:21 to go in the frame to make it a one-point game before Pietrus' three at the buzzer extended the Warriors' lead back to 77-70.
A slam by Pietrus 3 1/2 minutes into the fourth put Golden State up by 13 at 88-75 and Indiana couldn't muster enough offense to get any closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Pacers fell to 3-5 since the incident in Detroit...Calbert Cheaney added 14 points for the Warriors and Fisher had 10...Harrison ended with 15 points, seven boards and five blocks...Golden State improved to 3-0 when reaching the 100-point plateau.
