NBA Game Summary - Utah at Dallas
(Saturday, December 4th)
Final Score: Dallas 109, Utah 86
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki followed up his career night with a 30-point effort, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 109-86 victory over the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center.
Jason Terry came off the bench to record 19 points with nine assists and five steals in helping the Mavericks to their fourth win in five games. Jerry Stackhouse scored 18 points while Josh Howard added 17 and 10 rebounds.
Nowitzki poured in a career-best 53 points in Thursday night's 113-106 overtime win against Houston.
Matt Harpring shot 10-of-15 for 22 points to pace the struggling Jazz, losers of four straight games and six of their last seven. Carlos Arroyo had 16 points and six assists. Mehmet Okur's five rebounds led the team as Utah mustered just four boards off the offensive glass.
"I've never seen our team play as selfishly as we did tonight," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "It seemed like whoever got the ball was going to shoot in a hurry before someone else got it."
Leading 68-66, the Mavericks bridged a 15-3 run over the third and fourth quarters to pull away. Terry fueled the charge with five straight points and Dallas held an 83-69 margin with 9:39 remaining.
"That was big," Terry said of the big run. "A lot of their shot were contested and we got steals and rebounded."
Howard Eisley countered with a jumper at the other end, but the 11-point deficit was as close as Utah would get.
Terry drained a pair of three-pointers to open and close a 12-6 spurt that handed Dallas a 95-78 cushion midway through the final stanza.
The Mavs outscored the Jazz 34-18 in all in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Neither team led by more than six in the first half.
Dallas took a 47-41 lead into the break, thanks to a quick 10-2 spurt over the final three minutes of the second quarter. Nowitzki capped the rally with a three 18 seconds before halftime to top all scorers with 16 points.
"The last two minutes of the first half, they made a run and then they did the same thing at the end of the third quarter," Harpring said.
Nowitzki failed to record a double-double for the first time in six games. He finished with seven boards...Teammate Marquis Daniels had a strong all-around game with 10 points, six assists, six rebounds and a career-best six steals...Utah made 38 of its 75 shots for a 51 percent clip, but was outrebounded by a 44-28 margin.
