NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at New Orleans

(Monday, January 23rd)

Final Score: San Antonio 104, New Orleans 102

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan has some life left in his 35- year-old legs after all, hitting a one-handed fallaway at the foul line with 1.4 seconds remaining to lift the Spurs over the Hornets, 104-102.

Carl Landry's tip-in of a Jarrett Jack miss tied the game with 5.2 seconds left, giving San Antonio time to draw up a final play.

The Spurs went to Duncan on the left wing. The future Hall-of-Famer, who sat out Saturday's loss at Houston to rest, dribbled once toward the foul line and lifted a shot in-stride over Emeka Okafor that went through as the eventual game-winner.

"It was a mix of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, a kind of sky-hook and we'll take it," said Tony Parker, who scored 20 to go with a career-high 17 assists for the Spurs.

Landry had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but his straightaway three-point try fell way short, sending New Orleans to its eighth straight loss.

"It's extremely frustrating," said Jack. "The good part is that we gave ourselves a chance. That's all that you can really ask for in this league."

Duncan finished with 28 points and seven rebounds.

Jack scored a team-high 26 points, and Landry and Trevor Ariza had 18 apiece in a losing cause.

Neither team led by more than four points in the fourth quarter, with the visitors going on top 94-90 following buckets by Tiago Splitter and Parker with four minutes to play.

It was still a four-point game, 102-98, before Jack's reverse layup and Landry's tip-in preceded Duncan giving the Spurs their second road win of the season.

The time off must have done Duncan some good, as he hit 6-of-8 from the field in the first half for 15 points.

Landry also netted 15 points in a back-and-forth opening half, which saw the Spurs lead 30-28 at the end of the first quarter and 56-55 at the break.

An 11-2 run by the Hornets midway through the third gave them a lead, 71-65, they did not relinquish until the Spurs scored 10 straight points spanning the third and fourth frames. New Orleans led 80-79 heading to the final stanza.

Game Notes
