NBA Game Summary - Dallas at LA Clippers
(Wednesday, January 18th)
Final Score: LA Clippers 91, Dallas 89
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Chauncey Billups hit his first "Big Shot" for the Clippers, draining a go-ahead three-pointer with one second left in regulation to give Los Angeles a 91-89 victory over the Mavericks, its first over Dallas in over three years.
Four seconds prior to Billups' make, Jason Terry hit a straightaway three after coming off a double-screen at the top of the key to give Dallas the lead, 89-88.
But the Clippers drew up a play for Billups, who inbounded the ball along the right sideline and passed to Blake Griffin. Jason Kidd lost Billups in the exchange, and "Mr. Big Shot" hit nothing but the bottom of the net from the right wing.
"I was a little surprised I was that open," Billups said. "I got some separation and made the shot."
Dallas' desperation lob fell short prior to the buzzer, putting an end to the Clippers' 10-game losing streak to the Mavs.
Billups finished with 21 points and Mo Williams scored 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting off the bench for LA, which got 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocks from DeAndre Jordan in its seventh straight home win.
Dirk Nowitzki and Delonte West each scored 17 points to lead the Mavs, who also suffered a last-second loss to the Lakers at Staples Center on Monday.
"It's tough when this happens," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said. "Give them credit, they made the last shot."
The Clippers, despite being without Chris Paul (hamstring) for the third game in as many nights, never trailed in the fourth quarter leading up to Terry's three.
A seesaw first quarter ended with the Clippers holding a 31-27 edge. Offenses slowed down a bit in the second stanza, resulting in LA clinging to a 52-51 lead at intermission.
Williams missed the previous three games with a sore right foot...The last time the Clips got the best of Dallas was on Nov. 9, 2008...Blake Griffin logged 14 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists for LA, which shot just 9- of-17 from the free throw line...Terry scored 12 points, as did teammate Shawn Marion, who also pulled down 10 rebounds.
