NBA Game Summary - New York at LA Lakers

(Thursday, December 29th)

Final Score: LA Lakers 99, New York 82

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 28 points, leading the Lakers to a 99-82 win over the Knicks on Thursday night.

Pau Gasol added 16 points and 10 boards, Steve Blake had 11 points and Josh McRoberts finished with 10 for the Lakers, who have won two in a row after opening the season with a pair of losses.

The Knicks, meanwhile, have dropped two in a row after a season-opening Christmas Day win over the rival Celtics. They were paced by Carmelo Anthony's 27 points. Amar'e Stoudemire chipped in 15 and Tyson Chandler posted a double- double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite playing its fourth game in five nights, Los Angeles appeared fresh, shooting 52.1 percent from the field and knocking down 9-of-16 three-pointers.

"That was impressive," said LA coach Mike Brown. "Our bench scoring was exciting. To see the scoring output was exciting."

Blake and offseason acquisition Jason Kapono were sharp in supporting roles, effectively stretching the floor. Blake went 3-of-5 from downtown and Kapono scored nine points, making all three field goal attempts, including two treys.

The Lakers held a 63-51 lead at the half, leaned on Bryant's 13 third-quarter points and closed with a strong defensive effort, limiting the Knicks to 10 fourth-quarter points.

Stoudemire personified New York's night, going just 4-of-17 from the field, grabbing only two boards and committing four turnovers.

"In the second half our defense was good but we couldn't hit shots," said New York coach Mike D'Antoni.
