NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Sacramento

(Tuesday, March 29th)

Final Score: Sacramento 116, Phoenix 113

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Marcus Thornton made the go-ahead three- pointer with 53.4 seconds remaining, as the Sacramento Kings took down the Phoenix Suns, 116-113, at ARCO Arena.

Thornton ended with 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who have won a season-high four straight games. Beno Udrih and Donte Greene added 19 and 18 points, respectively.

DeMarcus Cousins donated 17 points, eight assists and seven boards for Sacramento, which has won four in a row for the first time since November 25 - December 2 of last season.

Channing Frye finished with 21 points and nine rebounds for the Suns, who have lost three straight games. Jared Dudley also chipped in with 21 points.

Marcin Gortat tallied 17 points and 11 boards for Phoenix, which sits 4 1/2 games behind idle Memphis for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"They played well down the stretch and they made shots," Suns head coach Alvin Gentry said. "We had good looks at the basket that didn't go down. They converted on the shots they needed to. We just can't turn the ball over. We turned the ball over at the most inopportune times. They ended up getting easy baskets and didn't have to work for them."

Trailing by nine, 102-93, with 8:51 to play, the Kings went on a 13-2 run to take the lead. Tyreke Evans had five points during the stretch, including a slam with six minutes remaining to make it 106-104.

The game remained tight in the final minutes, and Dudley made a jumper with 1:11 left to give the Suns a 110-109 edge.

But Thornton made a three-pointer at the other end to give Sacramento a 112-110 lead. Frye missed a shot from beyond the arc at the other end, leading to two free throws from Evans.

Frye missed another three-pointer on Phoenix's next trip down the floor, and Thornton made two from the line to seal the victory.

"We've been playing good but it starts on the defensive end," Evans said. "We came in there and did a good job on Steve Nash and we picked-and-rolled. They made a couple of good plays but at the end of the day we made good stops and came down and scored the ball."

The Suns led by as many as 10 in the first half and took a 61-59 lead into the locker room.

Holding an 87-84 margin late in the third quarter, the Suns ripped off six straight points. Vince Carter's jumper gave Phoenix a 93-84 lead, but Thornton stopped the bleeding with a technical free throw.
