NBA Game Summary - Golden State at Utah
(Wednesday, February 16th)
Final Score: Golden State 107, Utah 100
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Monta Ellis scored 35 points on 16-of-25 shooting, and Golden State handed the slumping Utah Jazz another loss at EnergySolutions Arena, 107-100.
Ellis also had seven assists for the Warriors, who improved to 26-29 heading to the All-Star break, matching their win total from last season. Dorell Wright and Reggie Williams chipped in 22 and 15 points, respectively, in the club's third straight victory.
The Jazz have dropped all three games since the resignation of head coach Jerry Sloan and have uncharacteristically lost five in a row at home, their longest slide since the 1981-1982 season.
Three Utah players eclipsed the 20-point plateau: Al Jefferson (23), Paul Millsap (22) and C.J. Miles (20). Jefferson also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Deron Williams ended with 18 points, 11 assists and seven boards in defeat.
"I think the [All-Star] break came at the right time. Hopefully we can put these last few games behind us," Deron Williams said. "We just need to figure things out."
The Jazz led 90-89 with 7 1/2 minutes to play, but they hit just one field goal over the next six minutes.
Golden State's subsequent 10-2 run -- fueled by seven points from Ellis -- gave the Warriors a 99-92 lead with under three minutes to play.
Deron Williams stopped the run with two free throws, but an extended Golden State possession resulted in Reggie Williams driving in for two.
Jefferson split a pair from the line with 1:45 to go, and Miles added a layup in transition to make it a four-point game.
Deron Williams answered an Ellis jumper with a big three for Utah, but after Stephen Curry got a reverse layup to fall with 31.7 seconds left, the All-Star point guard air-balled a deep try to seal Utah's fate.
"It was a big game for us," Ellis said. "We treated it like it was a playoff game and we came out and played together and got the win."
The first half featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes. After Utah clung to a 23-20 edge after 12 minutes, the Warriors battled back to tie it, 48-48, at the break.
The mirrored bout continued in the third, with Utah scoring the first seven points and Golden State countering with a 7-2 run in the final minute to make it 76-all heading to the fourth.
Raja Bell (calf), Andrei Kirilenko (ankle) and Ronnie Price (toe) all missed the game for Utah...The Warriors won the season series, 3-1...David Lee scored 13 points for Golden State...Utah made 3-of-14 from three-point range.
