NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Charlotte

(Saturday, January 22nd)

Final Score: Atlanta 103, Charlotte 87

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Joe Johnson finished with a game-high 32 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks over the Charlotte Bobcats, 103-87, at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Josh Smith added 16 points and seven rebounds, while both Mike Bibby and Jamal Crawford added 14 points for the Hawks, who have won three of four.

D.J. Augustin paced the Bobcats with 20 points and seven assists. Boris Diaw added 12 points with seven rebounds and Stephen Jackson had 10 points for Charlotte, which had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Charlotte took a 49-44 lead into the half, however, Atlanta opened the third quarter on a 9-3 run, capped by a Maurice Evans three-pointer at 8:27 to take a 53-52 lead.

Augustin responded with a three of his own on the following possession, but a Zaza Pachulia turnaround bank-shot at 7:42 tied the game at 55-55.

After Augustin tied the game at 57 with a technical free throw, Nazr Mohammed's jumper at 5:42 gave Charlotte a 59-57 lead -- its last of the game.

Bibby's three on the following possession ignited a 17-4 Atlanta run to put the game away. Bibby scored the first six points in the run, and Johnson capped it on a three with 1:27 remaining, giving Atlanta a 74-63 advantage.

The Bobcats trimmed their deficit to 76-67 entering the fourth quarter.

Pachulia opened the fourth quarter with 1-of-2 from the line and a short jumper to widen the Hawks' lead to 12. It never fell below 11 the rest of the way.

"Their zone defense really threw us off. We weren't penetrating and we just passed the ball around the perimeter, so we have to really look at that," said Bobcats head coach Paul Silas.

Johnson led the Hawks with 11 points in the first quarter, however, a balanced Bobcats attack gave Charlotte a 29-24 lead after the opening 12 minutes. The Bobcats took a 49-44 lead into the half after a back-and-forth second quarter.
