NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Washington

(Friday, January 21st)

Final Score: Phoenix 109, Washington 91

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Channing Frye connected on seven of his 11 three-point tries and scored 25 to guide Phoenix in a 109-91 victory over the Wizards.

Steve Nash contributed 17 points and 14 assists for the Suns, who have won five in a row overall and nine straight against Washington. Marcin Gortat added 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Vince Carter tallied 12 points and 10 boards.

"We haven't played well this year, we have to win everything we can," Nash said. "We've given a lot of games away already and had a lot of bad performances. We have to try and gain this momentum and ride it and build on it."

Nick Young had 25 points for the Wizards, who lost their second in a row. John Wall totaled 11 points, 14 assists and four steals in defeat, while Rashard Lewis chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Wall had nine assists in the opening quarter, when Young and Andray Blatche combined for 21 points. That helped the Wizards build a 33-22 lead after 12 minutes.

Carter's layup finished off 10 straight Phoenix points and moved the visitors within 37-36 with 7:03 remaining in the half. Frye's three-ball in the final minute had the Suns facing a 53-52 deficit at the half.

Frye then took over by hitting 4-of-6 three-point tries in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Wizards went just 6-of-20 from the field in the period and couldn't recover from Phoenix's onslaught. The Suns went 6-of-11 from beyond the arc in the period.

Carter's three-pointer extended the Suns to a 75-62 lead. That also capped a 23-7 burst and Phoenix carried an 83-71 advantage into the fourth.

"We didn't have any heart, didn't have any fight, just gave up pretty quickly," Wall said.

Kirk Hinrich's three-ball had Washington within 88-80 nearly 2 1/2 minutes later, but the Suns scored the next six, culminated by Goran Dragic's hook shot. The double-digit difference remained the rest of the way.
