NBA Game Summary - Oklahoma City at Utah
(Saturday, February 5th)
Final Score: Oklahoma City 121, Utah 105
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Russell Westbrook scored 27 of his 33 points in the second half and dished out 10 assists, leading Oklahoma City to a 121-105 win over the Utah Jazz.
Kevin Durant added 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Jeff Green scored 20 as the Thunder posted their third consecutive victory. Westbrook made all four of his three-point attempts and missed just one of his 10 foul shots.
Paul Millsap had 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Jazz, who wasted a 13-point lead in the first quarter, a period in which they shot 73.7 percent. Al Jefferson ended with 21 points, while Deron Williams contributed 14 points and 11 assists. Raja Bell also scored 14 for Utah in its ninth loss in 12 contests.
The Jazz started this game on fire, making their first 11 shots from the field. The first miss came from Millsap with under four minutes left in the quarter.
"They were making every shot," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "We were helping them make a lot of those shots. We weren't defending anybody and we clamped down in the second quarter. I thought our bench did a great job."
Facing a 37-27 deficit after 12 minutes, Oklahoma City started the second quarter on a 9-0 run; hitting 3-of-3 from behind the three-point line, and closed the first half on a 11-1 run in the last 2:55. That allowed the Thunder go grab a 62-57 lead at the break.
The Thunder increased the lead to double digits early in the third and carried a 92-81 margin into the fourth. Westbrook was particularly effective by scoring 13 in the period, making all five of his shots from the field.
Millsap's jumper had Utah within 95-87, but Durant drained a three-ball and pair of free throws sandwiched around a Westbrook jumper for a dominating 15- point cushion.
"It looked like we should be down 30 points. We were down seven or eight points and we still couldn't make stops," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "We went through everything that we do on the defensive end of the floor as far as pick and roll stuff to try and play them. We weren't able to handle any of it. They killed us with that because once they got loose, they penetrated and kicked the ball out to guys who shot the ball. They did a terrific job of shooting the basketball."
Utah didn't get closer than nine the rest of the way and an 11-1 spurt pushed the difference to 19 points. Green capped the burst with a three-pointer for a 113-94 score inside four minutes.
The Jazz are the first team in the NBA to start a game shooting 11-of-11 from the field since Detroit did it against Milwaukee February 19, 2010 (also 11- of-11)...Oklahoma City's bench held a 33-16 scoring advantage...James Harden scored 14, Nenad Krstic 12 and Eric Maynor 10 for the visitors.
