Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Aaron Brooks scored half of his 24 points in the final quarter, as Houston beat the Hawks, 112-106, ending Atlanta's 10- game home winning streak.
Brooks, who went 4-of-7 from three-point range, also had 10 assists. Luis Scola added 20 points for the Rockets, who won for just the second time in their last nine games.
Joe Johnson had 30 points and seven assists for the Hawks, who hadn't lost at Philips Arena since November 22 against Boston. Al Horford ended with 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight helpers for Atlanta, which also had a five-game overall win streak broken. Josh Smith contributed 21 points and 12 boards in defeat.
"I wish we could win every game, but it's not going to happen," Hawks guard Mike Bibby said. "They kept fighting and when their shots were going down ours weren't."
Atlanta wasted a nine-point lead in the third quarter. The Rockets finished the period on a 12-2 burst, part of a 30-8 spurt. Jordan Hill's turnaround jumper gave Houston an 83-82 edge going to the fourth. Kyle Lowry's three- pointer capped an 11-0 push for a dominating 101-88 cushion with 5:21 left.
Johnson's three-ball had the Hawks within 103-98 inside three minutes remaining, but Brooks stemmed the tide with a layup and then canned a shot from beyond the arc to open a double-digit margin again.
"In the last two years we've been very resilient," Houston coach Rick Adelman said. "I told them after the game, it just shows, you've got to stay with it because we have the potential to keep winning games, but it's got to be just like this, just like we did tonight."
Johnson scored 10 in the opening quarter, helping the Hawks to a 31-29 edge after 12 minutes. It remained tight throughout the second, but Scola's jumper in the final minute had the Rockets back within two, 58-56, at the half.
