NBA Game Summary - Cleveland at Utah
(Friday, January 14th)
Final Score: Utah 121, Cleveland 99
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Deron Williams netted 26 points and dished out nine assists in Utah's 121-99 dismantling of Cleveland at EnergySolutions Arena.
The Jazz won their third straight game with a well-balanced attack that saw six players in double-digit scoring. C.J. Miles had 20 points, while Andrei Kirilenko, Al Jefferson and Raja Bell all posted 15 points for the victors.
"We've been coming out with a lot more energy and having energy for pretty much the whole game except for a little spurt in that third quarter," said Williams. "Our second group came in again and gave us a big lift and got after people. It's a good team victory."
Antawn Jamison provided 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who lost for the 22nd time in 23 games, including Tuesday's dismal 112-57 defeat to the Lakers.
J.J. Hickson had 21 points and 14 boards, while Mo Williams collected 14 points and 10 assists.
"I think as a whole we gotta do a better job staying focused for the full 48 and I think we did a good job of that in the second half, especially in the third quarter when we went on a little roll and cut it down to I think like nine points," Hickson said. "It's tough just climbing up hill the whole second half but we'll take what we did and roll with it."
The Jazz jumped out to an early 16-7 lead thanks to Bell's three-point shot with 7:04 left to play in the first quarter. Cleveland cut it to a two-point game on Samardo Samuels' layup with 50.4 seconds left in the first, but Deron Williams scored the final four points of the quarter to go up 31-25.
The margin grew to 18, 49-31, after a 14-point spurt concluded by Kirilenko's jumper with eight minutes left in the half. Utah continued to roll the rest of the half and claimed a commanding 70-50 lead at the break.
Cleveland chipped away at the deficit most of the third quarter and it was finally cut to six, 89-83, with a short Jamison jumper. Miles responded, though, with a trey on the ensuing trip and Mehmet Okur made a free throw to give the Jazz a 10-point advantage heading into the final stanza.
The Jazz cruised during the fourth and ballooned their lead to 22 several times during the final 3 1/2 minutes.
