NBA Game Summary - Cleveland at New Jersey

(Tuesday, November 9th)

Final Score: Cleveland 93, New Jersey 91

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - J.J. Hickson scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Antawn Jamison returned to the lineup to provide 15 points and eight boards off the bench to lead Cleveland to a 93-91 triumph over New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

Ramon Sessions added 15 points and Daniel Gibson supplied 14 in a spirited bench effort for the Cavaliers, who have won nine straight games over the Nets, including five straight in New Jersey.

Travis Outlaw poured in a game-high 27 while Devin Harris contributed 18 points and six assists for the Nets, who have dropped five in a row after opening the season with two straight wins.

A Harris pullup jumper got the Nets to within 83-82 with 2:50 left before a Jamison three-ball pushed the lead to four 23 seconds later and an Anthony Parker three-pointer from the top of the key just ahead of a potential shot clock violation made it 89-82 with 1 1/2 minutes to play.

Outlaw's three-pointer sliced the hosts deficit to four and they had a chance to get closer but Jordan Farmar missed two shots from close range.

Gibson's long jumper extended the margin to 91-85 with 23.4 ticks to go before Anthony Morrow was fouled on a three-point try and made all three foul shots just two seconds later.

Two Parker free throws with 20.9 seconds to play made it a five-point game and a cosmetic trifecta by Outlaw with less than a second left accounted for the final margin.

"We play unselfish basketball and if you have it going, we're going to continue to go with you," Jamison said. "I was able to get it going and open up what we wanted to do offensively, and by doing that, it opened up opportunities for us to penetrate the ball. It took a while for guys to understand their roles and really maximize their opportunities coming off the bench."

Trailing 61-56 with 3:18 left in the third quarter, the Nets went on a 9-2 burst to take a two-point lead heading into the final stanza.

Outlaw's three-point play tied the game at 63 with 1:15 to go in the period and Derrick Favors' dunk with 30 ticks to go put the hosts back in the lead.

The Nets had a nine-point lead early in the game but seven points off the bench from Jamison helped the Cavs forge a 23-23 tie after 12 minutes.

Despite shooting only 18-of-43 from the floor in the first half, the Cavs led 45-42 at the break. A Jawad Williams three-point play put the visitors ahead 42-32 with 5:26 left before the break but the Nets closed the period on a 10-3 run behind seven points from Outlaw.

"We have to continue to fight, keep our heads up and push forward," Outlaw said. "We're still maturing and we have a lot to work on but I think we're right there; we have to find a way to develop a winning attitude."
