NBA Game Summary - Golden State at Detroit
(Sunday, November 7th)
Final Score: Detroit 102, Golden State 97
Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton finished with 27 points and sank two big free throws with 13 seconds left, helping to secure the Detroit Pistons' 102-97 win over the Golden State Warriors.
Rodney Stuckey added 21 points, nine assists and five rebounds for the Pistons, who have won back-to-back games since starting the season with five consecutive losses. Charlie Villanueva had 16 points and 10 boards in the victory.
Monta Ellis scored 24 points to pace the Warriors, who lost for just the second time in their first six contests. Dorell Wright had 19 points in the setback.
A tight game, in which neither team led by more than nine, came down to the final minutes. The Pistons led down the stretch, and a Villanueva hook shot followed by two foul shots by Stuckey gave them a 100-95 edge with 1:30 remaining.
David Lee countered with a layup to make it a one-possession game, though the Warriors missed several chances to get closer. Reggie Williams missed a baseline jumper with under 40 seconds left and Villanueva came down with the ball.
Stuckey lost the ball at the other end to give Golden State another chance, but Stephen Curry's three-point try from the top of the arc rimmed out.
"I was kind of running behind him when that went up and it was right on line, so I thought it was in, but it rimmed in and out," Lee said. "But I will take that shot from a great shooter any day of the week to tie it up. I thought it was down."
Hamilton was fouled with 13.0 seconds on the clock and sank both to seal the win.
"It was a scary sequence," Stuckey said. "I shouldn't have lost the ball, but he just missed the shot and we got the rebound and Rip hit his two free throws."
Neither team led by more than five during a back-and-forth first half. Villanueva had 11 points and six rebounds during the two quarters to help Detroit take a 49-45 edge.
But the Warriors forged ahead in the third thanks to Wright, who sank three shots from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points in the quarter. Williams' layup just inside the final minute had Golden State up 76-73 moving to the fourth.
However, the Pistons began the final quarter with six points to go back in front.
Tayshaun Prince had 14 points for the Pistons...Lee ended with 11 points and seven boards, while Curry had 10 points and six assists. Williams provided 12 total points off the bench...Detroit sank 9-of-17 from three-point range.
