NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Golden State

(Wednesday, November 3rd)

Final Score: Golden State 115, Memphis 109

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Monta Ellis poured in 39 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out eight assists, as Golden State held off a late charge in a 115-109 victory over Memphis at Oracle Arena.

Ellis scored 17 of the hosts' last 21 points, while Dorrell Wright hit a career-best seven three-pointers en route to 25 points for the Warriors, who have won their first three home games for the first time since the 1990-91 campaign.

"They were tired. We were getting up and down here and there," Wright said. "We have to step on teams when we know they're fatigued and tired. You can see it on their faces."

Rudy Gay dropped in 35 points, while Mike Conley contributed 18 points and a career-high 13 assists for the Grizzlies, who have dropped three out of five to begin the season.

"Right now, I guess we're feeling sorry for ourselves," Gay said. "We have to realize that we're better than some of the games that we're playing, and we have to start performing like we want to win."

Ellis made a driving layup and foul shot to finish a three-point play that gave the Warriors a 104-97 edge with 2:40 left to play.

Andris Biedrins' tip-in, his first bucket of the night, made it 108-99 before Conley hit a runner and Gay made a leaner to trim the deficit to 108-103 with just under 1 1/2 minutes remaining.

Ellis drained a fadeaway jumper to beat the shot clock to push the lead back to 110-103 with 63 seconds left in the game before Gay responded with a three- pointer to cut the difference to four less than nine seconds later.

Three Ellis foul shots extended the margin to seven prior to Gay dropping in another three-pointer to make it 113-109 with 29.9 ticks to go. Ellis then sealed the deal with the last two of his career-high 14 free throws with 28.6 seconds to go.

David Lee's three-point play pushed the Golden State lead to 79-61 with just under seven minutes to go in the third quarter before Gay hit a pair of foul shots to cap a 16-3 burst that trimmed the deficit to 82-77.

The Warriors made just 8-of-23 shots from the floor but outscored the visitors, 9-0, from the foul line to forge a 27-26 lead after the first quarter.

Wright hit a jumper and a three-pointer in the final 40 seconds to help the hosts close the half on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 64-52 at the break.
