NBA Game Summary - Milwaukee at Boston
(Wednesday, November 3rd)
Final Score: Boston 105, Milwaukee 102 (OT)
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Paul Pierce was clutch at the foul line late in overtime and surpassed 20,000 points for his career, as the Boston Celtics snuck past the Milwaukee Bucks, 105-102, at TD Garden.
Pierce scored 28 points and became just the third Celtic to score 20,000 points while playing their entire career for Boston. Pierce went 11-of-11 from the foul line.
"It was an emotional moment for me, tough for me to swallow," Pierce said of the accomplishment. "You don't see it too often where a player accomplishes that kind of feat playing with one team."
Ray Allen added 23 points and six rebounds for the Celtics, who have won three in a row. Rajon Rondo ended with 17 points, 15 assists, and eight boards, while Glen Davis tallied 14 points off the bench for the victors.
Andrew Bogut scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Bucks, who are off to a 1-4 start. Carlos Delfino and Ersan Ilyasova each had 15 points.
Pierce made two foul shots with 1:09 left in OT to give the Celtics a 99-95 lead. Bogut made a layup at the other end while being fouled. He missed the free throw to keep it a two-point contest.
A Delfino turnover led to two free throws from Pierce for a 101-97 Boston lead with 13.3 seconds to go.
Delfino kept things interesting with a three-pointer from the corner. Pierce, though, made two more foul shots to give the Celtics a 103-100 edge with 10.3 ticks remaining.
There was just 4.2 seconds left after Brandon Jennings and Pierce exchanged a pair of free throws.
Delfino's bad pass then sewed up Boston's victory.
Corey Maggette connected on a pair of free throws and Keyon Dooling made a layup to give the Bucks a 75-68 lead with over six minutes to play in regulation.
Trailing by six, 80-74, with 3 1/2 minutes to go, Boston went on a 16-4 run to take the lead. Kevin Garnett tallied six points during the burst, which Davis capped with a pair of free throws for a 90-84 edge with 1:20 remaining.
After Maggette went 1-of-2 from the line, Allen missed a shot from the beyond the arc. Maggette made two more foul shots, and Jennings made a layup following a steal to cut the deficit to 90-89 with 17.4 seconds left.
Allen made 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it a two-point contest before Delfino's layup with 10.5 ticks remaining made it a 91-91 game.
Rondo's missed jumper sent the game into overtime.
"We were right there," Bogut said. "We had a couple screw ups on some plays and some defensive mishaps in layups [at the end of regulation]. Beyond that we'd win the game."
The Celtics held a 25-16 margin after 12 minutes of action, but the Bucks surged back in the second period to tie the game at 47 at the break.
Milwaukee took a 63-62 edge into the fourth quarter.
These two teams split a four-game season series a year ago...Pierce became the seventh player to reach that career milestone while playing for the Celtics. He joins Robert Parish, Larry Bird, John Havlicek, Gary Payton, Garnett, and Allen. No other team in NBA history has had seven players score their 20,000th career point while wearing its colors...Boston was without center Shaquille O'Neal (knee).
