(Wednesday, November 3rd)
Final Score: Charlotte 85, New Jersey 83
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - D.J. Augustin made a pair of free throws with 30.9 seconds remaining, as the Charlotte Bobcats edged the New Jersey Nets, 85-83, at the Prudential Center.
Augustin ended with five points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Bobcats, who won for the first time in four tries this season. Boris Diaw finished with 24 points, while Gerald Wallace had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the victors.
"We came out and felt like we played pretty good," Wallace said. "We rebounded well as a team."
Devin Harris recorded 19 points and eight assists for the Nets, who ended a four-game homestand with a 2-2 mark. Brook Lopez tallied 17 points and six rebounds before suffering a left shoulder injury on the last play of the contest.
The Nets put together a 13-2 run early in the fourth to take the lead. Harris tallied six points during the spurt, which Derrick Favors capped with a slam for a 76-66 margin with 5 1/2 minutes remaining.
The Bobcats responded with a 17-5 surge to go in front. Stephen Jackson bookended the flurry with a pair of three-pointers and two free throws for an 83-81 edge with over 1 1/2 minutes to go.
Lopez made a hook shot at the other end to tie the game with 1:19 to play. Wallace and Jackson missed shots from beyond the arc before Augustin made his two free throws with 30.9 ticks left for an 85-83 edge.
Harris then missed a running jumper at the other but the Nets maintained possession when the ball went out of bounds. That led to a pair of misses from Travis Outlaw around a missed tip-in from Lopez, who was hurt on a scramble for the ball.
"We've got to learn to get that killer instinct and really put teams away," Harris said.
Trailing by two, 19-17, the Bobcats bridged the first and second quarters with a 13-0 run. Diaw tallied six points during the spurt, which Tyrus Thomas capped with a jumper for a 30-19 lead with under 10 minutes to play until half.
New Jersey responded with a 17-2 flurry to take back the lead. Damion James scored the first four points of the surge, which Lopez ended with a pair of free throws for a 36-32 game with 2 1/2 minutes to go.
Charlotte took a 41-40 edge into the locker room. The Bobcats took a 62-61 margin into the fourth following an even third period.
