Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Kevin Garnett finished with 22 points on 9-of-12 from the field and Paul Pierce chipped in 21 points as the Boston Celtics scored a convincing 109-86 victory over the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Ray Allen had 16 points and Rajon Rondo finished with nine points and 17 assists to lead the Celtics to their first road victory of the season in two tries.
Jermaine O'Neal added 12 points in a starting role for Boston.
"(Head coach Doc Rivers) has wanted me to be a lot more aggressive, so I'm trying to do that," Garnett said. "My personality is not to demand a lot of shots, but I'm trying to be a lot more aggressive. I'm feeling good, my body's feeling good, those are good signs."
Charlie Villanueva finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, and Austin Daye added 16 points for the Pistons, who have started the season 0-4, their worst record since they began the 1999-00 season at 0-5.
Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon had 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Pistons, who had won 11 of the teams' last 16 meetings in Detroit.
"It just seems like last year is starting all over again, with the injuries and stuff like that," Stuckey said. "It's frustrating. The main thing -- the guys we have, we've got to stay positive and just try to work together."
The Celtics, who never trailed, led by as many as 23 in the contest and shot 42-of-81 from the field. The Boston defense had an impressive night, forcing the Pistons into 17 turnovers and converting on 7-of-9 fast break opportunities.
Boston was perfect from the free throw line, 18-of-18, and shot 33.3 percent from three-point range.
The Celtics began the game on a 16-5 run and led 31-26 after 12 minutes of play. Garnett had 10 points in the opening quarter.
Rondo hit a deep three as time expired in the second to give the Celtics a 57-44 lead going into the locker room. He had nine points and nine assists in the first half.
Boston extended their lead to 88-68 going into the final stanza. Pierce had 12 points in the third, and the Celtics shot 12-of-17 from the field in the quarter.
The outcome was never in doubt in the fourth.
