Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - John Salmons scored five of his 25 points in overtime and added six rebounds and six assists, as the Milwaukee Bucks escaped with 108-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at the Bradley Center.
Rookie sensation Brandon Jennings went for a team-high 29 points to go with eight assists and seven boards for the Bucks, who regrouped after suffering back-to-back home losses to Philadelphia and Miami. The Bucks remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, a game ahead of the Heat.
Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut (back) returned to action after sitting out Friday's loss to the Heat and finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
"When he's in the game it makes a big difference for us," Jennings said. "Just having Bogut present, you can't win in the NBA without a big man."
Zach Randolph led all scorers with 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Memphis, which was coming off a 128-110 loss at Golden State on Wednesday. The Grizzlies have dropped three of five overall. Rudy Gay had 20 points and Mike Conley added 18 points and 10 assists in defeat.
"They are a tough team, mentally tough, physically tough," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said of the Bucks. "They defended and we battled and we competed. They got a few loose balls on the offensive boards that gave them extra possession when we were up by one point. They made a couple of big shots."
With the Memphis loss, Utah, Denver and Dallas all clinched playoff berths. The ninth-place Grizzlies also fell 6 1/2 games behind San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Portland, who are tied for sixth in the Western Conference.
In the extra period, the lead changed hands a few times before Salmons' jumper put the Bucks up for good at 101-100 with 1:35 to play. After a foul on Randolph, Jennings made both free throws for a three-point cushion with 45.4 seconds remaining.
Luke Ridnour made another pair from the stripe to make it a 105-100 game with 14.8 ticks left after the Grizzlies went empty on their next trip. O.J. Mayo gave the visitors hope when he hit a trey, but Ridnour added two more from the line with 10.6 on the clock to essentially seal the win.
The Grizzlies led by three heading into the fourth quarter and stretched their advantage to 85-78 on a long jumper by Gay with 6:42 remaining.
Milwaukee then went on a 15-4 run over the next several minutes to reclaim the lead. Jennings started it with two straight layups, then finished it off with a floater with 48.3 seconds to go for a 93-89 advantage. Randolph's three-point play made it a one-point game on the Grizzlies' next trip.
After Jennings made 1-of-2 from the stripe to make it a two-point game with 12.1 seconds on the clock, Conley was fouled just inside the arc and sank both free throws to tie things at 94 with 2.1 on the clock. Following a Bucks timeout, Salmons had a short baseline jumper blocked by Marc Gasol and the game went into overtime.
Randolph paced the Grizzlies with 13 points in the opening quarter, but Milwaukee used a 5-0 run to grab a slim 24-23 lead after 12 minutes. The Bucks' advantage got as high as five in the early stages of the second before Memphis tied things at 31 on Gay's three-pointer with 8 1/2 minutes to play in the half.
The lead fluctuated back-and-forth for the rest of the quarter and Jennings' pair of free throws in the final second gave the Bucks a 46-44 edge heading into the locker room.
In the third quarter, Milwaukee turned a one-point deficit into an eight-point lead. Ersan Ilyasova's dunk and triple followed by a back-to-back layups from Salmons put the hosts up 68-60 with 3:29 left in the period.
However, the Grizzlies closed the period on a 13-2 run with Randolph hitting a three as the buzzer sounded for a 73-70 Memphis lead after three quarters.
