NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Toronto
(Wednesday, March 17th)
Final Score: Toronto 106, Atlanta 105
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Chris Bosh hit the winning jump shot with 2.1 seconds left, boosting the Toronto Raptors to a 106-105 decision over the Atlanta Hawks.
Bosh had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Andrea Bargnani totaled 22 points and 11 boards for the Raptors, who snapped a five-game losing streak. They continue to hold onto the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
"We just didn't give up, we didn't give in," Bosh said. "It came down to the defensive end. We got huge stops and we didn't let them have the offensive rebounds."
Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 33 for the Hawks, but he missed a potential game-winning jumper at the end of regulation. Al Horford chipped in 18 points and 14 rebounds for Atlanta, which won its previous three games. The Hawks are tied with Boston for the third-best record in the East.
"We were up four with a minute left. It was a tough loss for us," Crawford said. "In the fourth quarter they did different things defensively. They were scrappy and aggressive. That's why they got the win."
Horford's hook shot extended the Hawks to a 105-101 lead with 1:37 remaining. He then blocked Bosh's drive to the hoop, but Crawford missed a three-point try at the other end.
Bosh's lefty hook in the lane with 45.9 on the clock had Toronto within two, and the Hawks failed to expand the margin when Josh Smith's layup went awry. The ball then went out of bounds off Smith's hand, although replay was used to determine a final call.
Hedo Turkoglu was fouled on a drive to the hoop, but he converted 1-of-2 foul shots with 15.7 seconds left. While battling for the rebound off the second attempt, Atlanta's Marvin Williams was standing out of bounds when he touched the ball and the possession shifted to Toronto with 14 seconds left.
Bosh was isolated on Horford and raised up the go-ahead shot from the right baseline. Crawford's long shot at the end was well off the mark.
Toronto held a 30-25 lead after the opening quarter and gained a lead of as many as 15 in the second, at 47-32 on a three-point play from Jarrett Jack with 7:20 remaining.
Atlanta scored nine in a row later in the quarter, trimming the deficit to 53-51 following Smith's three-point play with 2:27 left. It was 59-56 for Toronto at the half.
The momentum shifted in the third as the Hawks used a 14-2 spurt to grab a 74-67 lead with 5:46 to go in the quarter. A three-pointer from Maurice Evans in the final moments of the third moved the margin to 86-75 through 36 minutes.
The Hawks were in front by as many as 12 in the fourth before faltering.
