NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Phoenix
(Tuesday, January 26th)
Final Score: Charlotte 114, Phoenix 109 (OT)
Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson scored 30 points and pulled down nine rebounds as Charlotte surged in overtime for a 114-109 win over the Phoenix Suns.
Ex-Sun Boris Diaw added 24 points and 11 boards for the Bobcats, who snapped a three-game skid but won for the 10th time in their last 14 games. Gerald Wallace chipped in 21 points and nine rebounds, while Raymond Felton scored six of his 17 points in the extra session.
"It definitely was a tough game," Diaw said. "We just tried to stay in the game playing good defense. It allowed us to play tight at the end of the game and we made a good shot to tie the game and go to overtime. It went our way. We needed that and we'd lost three games in a row, so we needed a win."
The Bobcats collected the franchise's first win in Phoenix after losing their first five visits to the desert.
Steve Nash led the way with 23 points for the Suns, who have dropped two in a row and seven of their last nine games. Channing Frye added 20 points and Jared Dudley ended with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
"It's somber," Frye said. "It's just getting frustrating for us. We just want to win so badly. I think we're doing the right things for about 36 to 40 minutes, but there's that eight minute stretch where we just knock the plate over and they take advantage of it."
Jackson's three-pointer tied the game at 98 with 19.9 seconds left in regulation. Dudley then missed a three-point shot in the final second.
Charlotte took immediate control in the overtime by a 107-101 count on a three-pointer by Flip Murray and never looked back.
Phoenix held a 54-48 halftime lead and the Suns held a 83-77 edge moving to the fourth.
Phoenix was the 28th NBA city in which the Bobcats collected a win. Charlotte has not won in New Orleans (0-5) or Dallas (0-6)...Phoenix had won nine of the 11 meetings...Charlotte defeated a Western Conference team on the road for the first time this season (1-4) and improved to 4-17 on the road this season...Murray had 14 points.
