NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Portland
(Monday, November 23rd)
Final Score: Portland 122, Chicago 98
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden combined for 48 points and 25 rebounds in Portland's 122-98 win over the Chicago Bulls.
Aldridge had 24 points and 13 boards, while Oden scored the same amount, tying a career-high, and had one less rebound, as the Trail Blazers won their second straight on a four-game homestand.
"I thought he was great," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said of Oden. "I thought he was really patient in the post, did a nice job of taking his time, reading the defense, and if the defense played him with single coverage he was able to score. He got deep post position to start with. When they tried to double team, he did a good job of making good decisions out of the post."
Brandon Roy tallied 18 points and seven assists for Portland, which won for the ninth time in its last 11 contests. Andre Miller missed just one of his 11 foul shots and finished with 16 points, while Rudy Fernandez scored 13 in the win.
Luol Deng had 25 points and John Salmons 22 for the Bulls, who lost for a third straight time on their six-game road swing. Chicago has games at Utah and Milwaukee to finish the trip.
"Our assist-to-turnover ratio was good tonight, but they outrebounded us by a lot and that was the difference in the game; their control of the glass," said Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro. "They were hurting us outside, they were hurting us inside a little bit, but I like the way we fought through in the third quarter to get back into the game, but we couldn't sustain it. We shot the ball decent tonight, but we gave up way to many easy field goals underneath."
Portland held a 31-28 edge after 12 minutes, but then turned it on in the second. Aldridge had 10 points and Miller nine during the quarter when the Blazers shot 12-of-19 from the field.
Ahead by only a 43-39 count, the Blazers widened the lead with an ensuing 11-2 spurt, which was capped by a Joel Przybilla layup with 3:24 remaining. The lead stood at 66-51 at the half.
Deng's jumper moved the visitors within 77-73 with 3:53 left in the third, but Portland widened the cushion to 90-80 at the period's end.
A 15-7 flurry to start the fourth essentially sealed Portland's victory. Oden's alley-oop jam off a feed from Miller highlighted the surge.
Portland plays New Jersey and Memphis to conclude its homestand...The Bulls also got 15 points from Jannero Pargo and 14 from Derrick Rose...Portland held a 47-27 rebounding advantage. The Blazers have won the last five meetings. Chicago has lost nine of its last 11 at Portland.
