NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Philadelphia

(Friday, November 20th)

Final Score: Memphis 102, Philadelphia 97

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay dropped in 33 points to lead Memphis to a 102-97 win over the 76ers at the Wachovia Center, the Grizzlies' first road win of the season.

Gay also pulled down 10 rebounds, while Zach Randolph chipped in 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have won three straight for the first time this season. Marc Gasol added 19 points and eight rebounds for Memphis, which shot 51.9 percent from the floor and won the battle on the glass, 48-28.

"It's huge for a young team like we are," Gay said about the win. "Hopefully there are a lot more to come. We're helping each other out and that's the key to winning."

Lou Williams paced Philadelphia with a career-high 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field. Elton Brand scored 22 points in the loss, the club's fifth in seven games.

"[Memphis] had energy and rallied around each other," Sixers head coach Eddie Jordan said. "We had five guys go five different ways."

The Grizzlies led, 92-86, with five minutes left in the game, and consecutive Philadelphia turnovers led to field goals by Marcus Williams and Gay to make it a 10-point affair.

A Lou Williams three-pointer and Brand bucket made it a two-possession game with two minutes remaining. The teams traded field goals, and an emphatic Andre Iguodala putback dunk with 43.0 seconds left cut the Sixers' deficit to 98-95.

Gay was then inexplicably left wide open on the right wing for an 18-footer with 19 ticks left, and Iguodala's deep three was well off the mark to end the comeback attempt.

Memphis won the first-quarter battle, 28-22, while the Sixers inched back in the second frame to take a 50-49 edge into the locker room.

O.J. Mayo hit a late three-ball in the third quarter to extend Memphis' lead to 75-71, and Marcus Williams added a free throw and a layup to extend the margin to seven heading to the fourth.
