NBA Game Summary - Portland at Sacramento

(Saturday, April 3rd)

Final Score: Portland 98, Sacramento 87

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy tallied game-highs of 24 points and six assists, as Portland topped Sacramento, 98-87, at ARCO Arena.

Andre Miller put in 23 points, while Nicolas Batum and LaMarcus Aldridge scored 21 apiece for the Trail Blazers, who had already clinched a postseason spot earlier in the week and helped solidify the Western Conference playoff picture with Saturday's win.

The victory, coupled with Oklahoma City's win earlier in the night, dropped Memphis from the race for the final spot, which was clinched by San Antonio.

Portland is actually tied with the Spurs for the eighth and final playoff spot with the rest of the schedule now left to jockeying for position.

Beno Udrih had 22 points and six assists for the Kings, who have lost seven straight games. Jason Thompson came up with 18 points and Carl Landry 14 with nine rebounds in the loss.

"It's tough, (we are) a team that needs to grow because we're so young. We just have to continue to fight," Landry said.

Portland had a 32-25 lead with 12 minutes in the books, but was held to just 16 points in the second quarter and trailed by one, 49-48, at the break.

The Blazers were back in front courtesy of a Roy jumper a little over two minutes into the second half and the lead changed hands from there until a pair of jump shots from Roy on consecutive possessions opened up a six-point margin, 70-64, with less than three minutes to go.

The visitors took a slim 72-69 lead into the final period and Omri Casspi produced a personal seven-point run to give Sacramento the lead at 80-78 with 7 1/2 minutes remaining.

A three-pointer by Batum broke a tie game two minutes later for an 85-82 Portland edge and Roy knocked down a three to counter a Kings score to stretch the margin to four.

"We found the open man tonight, that was big. There weren't a lot of forced shots," Roy said. "We're going to need our bench to get going if we want to make a run in the playoffs."

Batum's three-ball with less than four minutes to play opened up a six-point lead and Sacramento went the final three minutes without a point as Portland won going away.
