NBA Game Summary - LA Clippers at Denver

(Saturday, April 3rd)

Final Score: Denver 98, LA Clippers 90

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony poured in a game-high 24 points, as the Denver Nuggets took down the Los Angeles Clippers, 98-90, at the Pepsi Center.

Nene added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won two in a row and moved into a tie for first with idle Utah in the Northwest Division.

Denver and the Jazz are part of a four-way tie behind the front-running Lakers in the Western Conference.

Chauncey Billups and Johan Petro each chipped in 14 points for the Nuggets, who improved to 32-6 at home this season.

"(Big night) I got hot. I can't really say anything about it," Petro said. "Guys did a great job to find me. All I had to do was put it in. (Confidence level) I just felt way more comfortable with the guys. They kind of give me that confidence level. At practice everyday, everybody is trying to help me out the most they can and it kind of helped me out a lot. I was just going out there and trying to perform."

Eric Gordon tallied 23 points for the Clippers, who have dropped four straight. Chris Kaman ended with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw added 12 points apiece in defeat.

The Clippers held a 34-25 edge after 12 minutes and started the second on a 13-1 run to build a 21-point margin. Outlaw had six points during the flurry, including a rare four-point play to make it 47-26 with over 8 1/2 minutes left.

Moments later, Denver went on a 13-2 surge to get within 10. Anthony had six points during the stretch, including a slam to make it 51-41 with 4 1/2 minutes to go. The Nuggets had their deficit at 55-47 at the break.

Trailing 67-65 with five minutes left in the third, the hosts went on a brief 9-2 spurt. Ty Lawson's driving layup had the Nuggets in front 74-69. The score was 76-71 in favor of Denver heading to the fourth.

Ahead 88-83 with over six minutes to play in the final frame, Denver ripped off eight straight points to essentially seal the victory. Nene's free throw made it a 96-83 contest with four minutes remaining.

"(How much did it hurt you guys when the Nuggets started doubling Kaman) I think just in general we all didn't step up in the second half. Chris is a big part of our offense and if we can't get him the ball then that makes things tougher," Blake said.
