NBA Game Summary - New York at San Antonio

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Manu Ginobili poured in a game-best 28 points to go with six rebounds and five assists, as the San Antonio Spurs used a late surge to hold off the New York Knicks, 97-87.
Tim Duncan added 18 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who have won five of six and sit in seventh in the Western Conference. Keith Bogans donated 13 points, while George Hill chipped in 12 points for the victors.
David Lee finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who have dropped three of four. Wilson Chandler tallied 17 points. Al Harrington added 15 points off the bench, while Danilo Gallinari had 14 points and five boards in defeat.
"I think our defense was good throughout the entire game. We really have to make our shots to beat a team like the Spurs and tonight we didn't do it," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said.
Trailing 63-49 near the midway point of the third, New York went on an 11-2 burst to get within five. Sergio Rodriguez scored five points during the spurt, which Gallinari capped with two free throws to make it 65-60. Ginobili then made a pair of free throws at the end of the period to give the Spurs a seven-point cushion heading to the fourth.
A personal 5-0 flurry by Gallinari got the Knicks within one late. He made 1- of-2 from the foul line to cut the gap to 83-82 with four minutes to play.
But San Antonio fought right back with a game-clinching 14-3 run. Ginobili tallied five points during the stretch, which Duncan ended with a three- pointer for a 97-85 margin with 16 seconds to go.
"We held them to 18 less than they usually score. I'm pretty happy with that," remarked Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
Ahead 13-10 with seven minutes left in the first quarter, the Spurs went on a 16-6 run to gain some breathing room. Duncan's jumper put San Antonio in front 29-16 with 1 1/2 minutes to go. The score was 31-22 after 12 minutes.
The Spurs went on a 7-0 flurry in the early stages of the second to build a 14-point margin. DeJuan Blair's layup made it a 42-28 contest with eight minutes remaining. San Antonio held a 51-39 lead at the half.
The Spurs won the season series with the Knicks, 2-0...San Antonio has won nine of its last 10 meetings with the Knicks. The Spurs have also won seven straight over New York in the Alamo City.
