(Sunday, February 28th)
Final Score: Orlando 96, Miami 80
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Rashard Lewis finished with 22 points, as the Orlando Magic downed the struggling Miami Heat, 96-80, at Amway Arena.
Vince Carter added 17 points and J.J. Redick scored 15 off the bench for the Magic, who bounced back from Friday's loss in New Orleans to win for the third time in four games.
Dwight Howard, playing in foul trouble much of the game, finished with seven points, five rebounds and three blocks.
"We told Dwight in there afterwards that we certainly owed him, he's been carrying us," said Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy. "He had a frustrating night tonight with calls and everything else, and virtually everyone else who played in the game played well."
Dwyane Wade returned from a four-game absence because of a left calf strain and had a team-high 21 points, but the Heat lost their fourth consecutive contest. Jermaine O'Neal and Rafer Alston added 16 and 15 points, respectively.
"It felt good to be out there and I wanted to be aggressive," Wade said. "I'll see how I feel tomorrow and hopefully don't take a step backwards."
Orlando held a 26-24 edge after one quarter and the game remained tight in the second, as the Magic were up 52-48 at the break.
It continued to be close in the third until Orlando ended the quarter on a nine-point run. Redick closed it with two free throws for a 76-64 advantage.
Alston hit a pair of threes to get the Heat within 88-80 with 2:08 left, but Redick and Lewis responded with treys to stave off the comeback and essentially seal the Magic victory.
Orlando made 25-of-30 foul shots, compared to 14-of-18 for Miami...The Heat had 15 turnovers compared to eight for the Magic....Miami had won the previous two meetings this season.
