NBA Game Summary - Utah at Philadelphia

(Friday, November 13th)

Final Score: Utah 112, Philadelphia 90

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer poured in 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, as the Utah Jazz used a balanced attack to dominate the Philadelphia 76ers, 112-90, at the Wachovia Center.

Utah had seven players in double-figures despite not having leading scorer Deron Williams, who missed the game due to personal reasons. Wesley Matthews chipped in with 16 points for the Jazz, who have alternated wins and losses in their past six games. Mehmet Okur and Paul Millsap each had 15 points. Ronnie Brewer ended with 14 points, six assists, and five boards for Utah, which shot 51.2 percent from the floor.

"I don't think many people gave us much of a chance without Deron but we shot the ball well and competed. That's what makes this game fun. You never know what is going to happen," said Utah head coach Jerry Sloan.

Thaddeus Young finished with 17 points for the Sixers, who have lost three of their past four contests. Jason Kapono added 12 points off the bench. Andre Iguodala ended with 11 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Elton Brand tallied 11 points for Philadelphia, which committed 17 turnovers that led to 19 Jazz points.

"I thought with the young guards, we would be able to disrupt some things but he (Eric Maynor) played with confidence and handled things well. Matthews is also young but they have had the same system for so many years. The veterans help the young guys. That's what continuity does for you," said Philadelphia head coach Eddie Jordan.

The Jazz, who trailed 32-30 after one quarter, put together an impressive 17-4 run near the end of the second period. Millsap started the spurt with a pair of layups and Matthews capped the flurry with a driving layup to make it 60-46 with over 2 1/2 minutes left until half.

Utah used four Millsap free throws to take a 64-50 margin at the break. Philadelphia turned the ball over nine times in the first half, which led to 10 Utah points.

Okur drilled a three-pointer before making a technical free throw to put the Jazz in front 82-63 with over six minutes remaining in the third. Utah scored the final eight points of the stanza to take a commanding 92-69 lead into the fourth.

Philadelphia never got closer than 14 in the final frame.

"We talked in pregame and shootaround how physical this team is especially at the offensive end. Every time we have been challenged physically this season, we didn't repspond. I'm from a neighborhood where we didn't get pushed around. We pushed back. Hopefully if the bully keeps pushing us. We will push back," said Jordan.
