NBA Game Summary - Utah at Denver

(Sunday, January 17th)

Final Score: Denver 119, Utah 112

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony scored 29 of his 37 points in the second half, powering the Nuggets to a 119-112 decision over the Jazz in a Northwest Division battle.

Chauncey Billups chipped in 29 points while Nene scored 18 for Denver, which has won three straight and five of six overall. The hosts had a sizeable advantage at the free throw line, making 41-of-49 from the stripe compared to Utah's 20-of-27 effort.

"We're an attacking team. We tried to get out on the break," Billups said. "Not many times did we settle for jump shots tonight."

Kyle Korver sparked the Jazz off the bench with 19 points but it wasn't enough for a season-high fifth straight win. Carlos Boozer ended with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Deron Williams logged 23 points and 13 assists in defeat.

A late run in the third and Mehmet Okur's bank shot to open the fourth got the Jazz as close as two, 85-83.

Anthony's two free throws started a 10-2 Denver run over the next three minutes that J.R. Smith ended with a three-point play for a 95-85 cushion.

The margin was cut to 101-96 after a Korver three-pointer near the midway point, and Boozer's layup in transition made it 108-104 with 1:42 on the clock.

The teams traded baskets before Billups sank a huge three-pointer from the right wing, and the Nuggets held on from there.

"We played uphill after getting down 13 in that second quarter," Williams said. "It's always tough to do against a team like this. It's hard to fight back. You can get it close, but it's tough to take that lead."

The first quarter ended in a 28-28 tie, and Denver scored the first 13 points of the second stanza, capped by Nene's slam 3:28 in, to take control.

The halftime lead was 60-53 and an early 10-0 run in the third resulted in a 70-55 lead following a pair of Billups free throws.

Utah suddenly caught fire in the final two minutes, hitting four straight shots to pull within 85-81 on Williams' buzzer-beating jumper.
