NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at Memphis

(Saturday, January 16th)

Final Score: Memphis 92, San Antonio 86

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph made five big free throws in the final minute, helping Memphis thwart San Antonio's comeback bid to earn a 92-86 victory en route to a franchise-record eighth consecutive home win.

Randolph ended with 23 points and 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have won three straight and snapped a five-game losing streak to the Spurs. O.J. Mayo chipped in 19 points and eight boards, and Marc Gasol added 14 and nine in the impressive victory.

"We are maturing. We are getting better, but we can get a lot better," Gasol said. "We were up 14 and they almost came back and won the game. We'll keep working at it."

Tim Duncan logged 23 points and eight rebounds for the Spurs, who were coming off a 92-76 loss at Charlotte on Friday. Roger Mason posted 17 points, while Tony Parker scored just four on 2-of-8 shooting in defeat.

The Grizzlies went cold after a Randolph layup had them in front, 85-72, with 5:26 remaining in the game. A near five-minute scoreless stretch allowed the Spurs back in the game, as Mason's three-pointer capped a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to one.

After Duncan missed a potential go-ahead putback, Randolph made two free throws with 50.8 seconds to play.

Mason hit the side of the backboard on a three-point try at the other end, but Manu Ginobili hustled for the rebound and got it back to Mason, who drilled a deep two with 41.4 ticks left.

Randolph missed a contested jumper but then blindly stole Duncan's outlet pass and was fouled, making both at the line with 21.2 remaining for an 89-86 lead.

Mason was off the mark on a three-pointer, and Mayo essentially sealed the game with two more free throws.

A basket by Duncan had the Spurs up 9-2 early on, and San Antonio held a 27-24 lead after 12 minutes of play.

The Spurs went scoreless for three minutes in the second frame, and Memphis' subsequent 8-0 run, capped by a Mike Conley three-ball, had the hosts in front by a 44-35 score.

Mayo's layup beat the halftime buzzer for a 52-42 advantage, and an evenly- played third stanza ended with a 75-65 Memphis edge.
