NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at Indiana

(Saturday, January 16th)

Final Score: New Orleans 101, Indiana 96

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Chris Paul poured in 22 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed eight rebounds, as the New Orleans Hornets held off the Indiana Pacers, 101-96, at Conseco Fieldhouse.

David West added 24 points and six rebounds for the Hornets, who have alternated wins and losses in their last four games following a six-game win streak. Emeka Okafor finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Thornton donated 13 points and five boards off the bench for the victors.

"Against their offense we tried to limit their chances. They've got a potent offense and we wanted to limit their shot selection and really crash the defensive boards. When we were watching the tapes, we were looking at how to best defend them and I think we did real well in limiting their shots and keeping their hands in their faces," West said.

Roy Hibbert finished with a career-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Dahntay Jones added 16 points off the bench. Danny Granger and A.J. Price each had 12 points for Indiana, which made just 6-of-29 three-pointers.

Trailing 97-88 with 3:46 to go in the fourth, Granger made a jumper and three- pointer to cut the gap to four with about three minutes remaining.

Paul's floater in the lane put New Orleans ahead 99-93 with a minute to play.

Indiana missed multiple three-pointers in the final moments to give the Hornets the victory.

"A tough shooting night. We stayed in it and gave ourselves a chance to win," Pacers head coach Jim O'Brien said.

The Hornets led 26-25 following a back-and-forth first quarter. New Orleans led for a majority of the second and took a 52-48 edge into the locker room.

Ahead 54-53 early in the third, the Hornets ripped off 11 straight points. Paul bookended the burst with a layup and short deuce to make it 65-53 with less than six minutes left.

The Pacers responded with a 13-4 run to get within three. Hibbert tallied seven points during the flurry that Jones capped off with a layup to make it a 69-66 contest with two minutes remaining. New Orleans led 75-68 heading to the fourth.

Mike Dunleavy's three-point play had Indiana within 79-76 early in the fourth. The Hornets fought back with a Darius Songaila jumper and Thornton three- pointer to build an 84-76 margin with less than 10 minutes to play.
