Final Score: Utah 102, LA Lakers 94
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Deron Williams had 21 points and 11 assists to help the Jazz snap the Lakers' 11-game winning streak with a 102-94 victory.
Rookie guard Wesley Matthews posted a career-high 19 points while Ronnie Brewer also scored 19, helping the Jazz win their second game in a row since they were trounced by the Lakers in LA on Wednesday. Utah was outscored 28-6 in the fourth quarter en route to a 101-77 loss.
Carlos Boozer totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Paul Millsap kicked in a dozen points as well.
Kobe Bryant, attempting to play through an avulsion fracture in his right index finger suffered during Wednesday's game, was 7-of-24 from the floor and just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc for 16 points.
"I think it was just energy wise for him, he'd figure out a way to go at it if he had the energy but I just don't think he had the energy," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said of Bryant, who was also battling illness.
Pau Gasol also had 16 points and grabbed 20 boards for Los Angeles, which last lost back on November 15 against Houston. Ron Artest chipped in 16 points as well and Derek Fisher scored 15.
With the game tied at 25 following the close of the first quarter, Utah opened the second on a 17-8 run carried by Matthews and C.J. Miles. Matthews added to his first-quarter total of 13 points with a pair of buckets and Miles scored five points to help produce a nine-point lead four minutes in.
Mehmet Okur and Fisher traded three-pointers with close to 4 1/2 minutes left until halftime with the Jazz still leading by four, and Fisher hit a jump shot in the closing moments to bring LA within 59-53 to start the second half.
Utah went up by 12 after scoring 10 of the first 14 points in the third quarter. Brewer had six of those points and added a three-pointer moments later to keep the advantage in double digits.
Both teams went through a cold shooting stretch late in the frame, which ended with the Jazz holding an 80-71 lead. Williams scored the first eight points of the fourth to open up a 17-point lead.
"I thought our guys played extremely hard...everyone was involved. (Deron Williams) is playing terrific on both ends of the floor. He is rotating out of the defense we're doing and really just doing a great job for us. It was just a great win for us," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan.
Millsap hit for a pair of shots around a Brewer bucket to extend the margin to 94-77 with five minutes left and the hosts cruised to victory from there.
