NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Boston
(Wednesday, March 3rd)
Final Score: Boston 104, Charlotte 80
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Paul Pierce connected on 9-of-13 shots and finished with 27 points, as the Boston Celtics routed the Charlotte Bobcats, 104-80, at TD Garden.
Pierce had scored only nine points in Tuesday's win over Detroit, his first game since missing three contests with a sore thumb. But Wednesday he found his rhythm and connected on a variety of shots, including four three-pointers.
Nate Robinson came off the bench to shoot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, finishing with 16 points for the Celtics, who shot 53.5 percent as a team. Kevin Garnett added 12 points, four blocks, five rebounds and four assists in the win.
"We haven't had a game like this, it's been a while," Pierce said. "I thought this was a good win. This is how we should come out in each and every game, at home especially."
Tyrus Thomas provided 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats, who have lost two in a row and five of six overall. D.J. Augustin scored 12 in the loss.
"I don't think anyone could have played in that environment," Bobcats head coach Larry Brown said. "They played great, they made shots, they executed great. We played hard but there were too many obstacles."
Robinson drained a pair of threes to end the first quarter, providing Boston with a 31-21 lead. He then connected again from long distance to open the second frame, while Ray Allen and Rasheed Wallace followed with baskets for a sudden 17-point advantage.
The Bobcats later ran off 12 consecutive points to get back in the contest. Stephen Graham's layup ended the rally to get Charlotte within 40-37 with 5:04 left. However, the Celtics scored nine of the final 11 points of the half to take a 54-45 lead to the break.
Boston was ahead by 11 approaching the midway point of the third quarter before ripping the game apart with an 11-0 run. Pierce hit twice from behind the arc during the stretch, which made it a 74-52 game.
The Celtics held an 82-61 advantage moving to the fourth, which they opened with a 10-2 run before cruising to the finish.
