NBA Game Summary - Detroit at San Antonio

(Wednesday, January 6th)

Final Score: San Antonio 112, Detroit 92

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Roger Mason capped a string of 11 straight San Antonio points to start the final quarter, on the way to a 112-92 victory over Detroit, as the Spurs sent the Pistons to their 11th consecutive defeat.

Tony Parker had 23 points and six assists for the Spurs, who bounced back from a 91-86 loss at Toronto Sunday and have captured six of their last seven contests. Richard Jefferson tallied 17 points and Manu Ginobili 16 for the Spurs, winners in 12 of their last 15 games. Tim Duncan ended with 14 points and six boards.

DeJuan Blair and Mason each had 10 points for San Antonio, which went 15-of-20 from the field in the last quarter.

"We made some good plays and played some good defense in the fourth quarter," Parker said. "I thought our defense was the best in the fourth and that was the difference in the game. So when you play good defense that translates to fast break opportunities, transition and we made some shots."

Richard Hamilton scored 29 for the Pistons, who are on their longest losing streak since dropping their final 13 of the 1993-94 season.

"I thought we played very aggressive in the first three quarters. Then in the fourth quarter we didn't take care of the basketball," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "If you notice we only had two turnovers in the first half, and we ended up having 14 turnovers in the second half. When you're on the road you don't want to put yourself in a position where you beat yourselves. That's what happened tonight."

Ben Gordon's short jumper tied the game in the opening seconds of the final quarter, but the Spurs netted the ensuing 11 points, started by back-to-back jumpers from Jefferson and Antonio McDyess. Parker added a three-point play before Mason scored on a layup and a jumper to cap the flurry for the 88-77 cushion with under nine minutes left.

San Antonio continued to pull away. Parker's layup moved the lead to 95-81 at the midway point, and the host team cruised down the stretch.

The Pistons held a 28-27 edge after 12 minutes, but fell behind 59-52 at the half. It was tight throughout the third.
