NBA Game Summary - Detroit at Milwaukee

(Saturday, October 31st)

Final Score: Milwaukee 96, Detroit 85

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Rookie Brandon Jennings poured in 24 points, as the Milwaukee Bucks used a strong second half to take down the Detroit Pistons, 96-85, in a battle between two Central Division foes at Bradley Center.

Hakim Warrick had 21 points and five rebounds for the Bucks, who were coming off a season-opening loss to Philadelphia on Friday. Michael Redd and Ersan Ilyasova each had nine points for Milwaukee, which was playing its home opener.

"I thought he (Jennings) had a pretty good all around game. We had a really nice floor game again and he easily could have had 10 or 12 assists. Detroit's guards gave us problems the last two games and kept us on our heels defensively. He came out in the third quarter and gave us a huge lift and, you know, got in the zone. It once again shows you a different element of his game," Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles said of Jennings.

Ben Gordon ended with 26 points for the Pistons, who were coming off a loss to Oklahoma City on Friday. Rodney Stuckey finished with 13 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Tayshaun Prince and Charlie Villanueva had 12 points apiece in defeat.

"Those third quarters. It seems like we have control of the game in the first half, it's exactly what happened yesterday against Oklahoma. It just seems like the third quarter, I don't know what it is, but it seems like a team makes a run and we cant respond," Villanueva said.

Milwaukee started the third frame with a 12-4 run to cut the deficit to 53-50. A pair of Warrick foul shots topped off the flurry with under seven minutes left. After a Prince layup, the Bucks used a 16-2 spurt to take a 66-57 edge. Jennings had 11 points during the spurt, including a jumper to top off the flurry with 2:14 to go. Milwaukee was ahead 74-63 heading to the fourth.

A Prince jumper brought the Pistons within 81-77 with under six minutes to play. The Bucks responded with an 8-2 spurt to take an 89-79 lead. Luc Mbah a Moute's jumper capped the flurry with over three minutes remaining.

Detroit never got closer than six the rest of the way.

Ahead 21-16 late in the first quarter, the Pistons ripped off eight straight points to take a 29-16 margin. A pair of Villanueva free throws capped off the spurt with 1:46 left. Detroit held a 29-20 lead heading into the second.

The Pistons put together an 11-1 run near the end of the second quarter to build a 49-33 margin. A Carlos Delfino three-pointer and a pair of Warrick free throws cut the gap to 49-38 at the half.

Game Notes

Detroit guard Richard Hamilton (ankle) missed his second straight game...Detroit won three of four meetings with the Bucks last season and is 14-5 in the past 19 encounters...Villanueva spent three seasons with the Bucks before signing with the Pistons over the summer.
