NBA Game Summary - Houston at Memphis

(Friday, February 5th)

Final Score: Houston 101, Memphis 83

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Aaron Brooks paced the Rockets with 19 points and eight rebounds, as Houston handily pounded Memphis, 101-83.

The teams came in sporting identical 26-22 records in the competitive Western Conference, but the Grizzlies failed to rise to the occasion, getting outrebounded, 50-35, and hitting a mere 1-of-9 from three-point range.

Trevor Ariza donated 17 points and eight rebounds, while Carl Landry scored 17 points as well for Houston, which was coming off a disappointing 2-4 homestand.

"We've been a very good offensive rebounding team all year," said Rockets head coach Rick Adelman. "We're not big, we don't have the size, but we're very quick. Our guys work hard, they'll pursue the ball. I'm not surprised we were able to do it."

Marc Gasol had 17 points and eight boards for the Grizzlies, who had won a franchise-record 11 straight home games before losing two of their last three at FedExForum. Zach Randolph went for 14 and eight in the club's fourth loss in five games.

"We can't play like that if we want to be where we say we want to be," Gasol said. "In the tough times, we have to get together and help each other. Now is those times, and we have to be there for each other."

Houston led throughout the second half, though a Gasol bucket with five minutes to go in the third brought the hosts within 61-60.

Brooks answered with a three-point play to spark a 10-2 run, and a Landry tip-in at the end of the third resulted in a 75-66 game.

The Grizzlies made just one field goal over an eight-minute stretch in the fourth, and the subsequent 17-3 burst -- highlighted by all seven of Kyle Lowry's points -- made for a 92-71 lead that was never threatened.

Memphis used a 12-0 run in the opening quarter to take a 24-16 lead on Mike Conley's layup with a little over three minutes left in the frame.

The Rockets, though, fought back to tie it things at 25-all going into the second, where they made 9-of-12 free throws to take a 50-44 halftime lead.
