NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at LA Clippers

(Tuesday, April 7th)

Final Score: Minnesota 87, LA Clippers 77

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Gomes scored 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, as the Minnesota Timberwolves took advantage of a depleted Clippers front line to beat Los Angeles, 87-77, at the Staples Center.

Kevin Love had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who beat the Clippers in the season series for a third straight year. Craig Smith scored 16 and Sebastian Telfair netted 13 to go with six assists for Minnesota, which has won two in a row on the road, but is 12-27 outside the Target Center this season.

Eric Gordon scored 28 for the Clippers, who suffered their sixth straight defeat. Brian Skinner added 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in a reserve role, while starter Baron Davis had 12 points.

The Clippers were without forwards Zach Randolph (suspension), Marcus Camby (sprained left ankle) and Al Thornton (sprained right shoulder). Guards Mardy Collins (right foot plantar fasciitis) and Ricky Davis (sore left knee) were also sidelined.

The injuries led to a domination by the Timberwolves, who held a 30-8 second- chance points advantage. Also, Minnesota manhandled the Clippers, 62-34, on the glass.

"We came out and outrebounded them," said Love. "They had a smaller lineup and we took advantage of it."

Minnesota held an 18-16 edge after one quarter and upped that margin to 47-41 at halftime. The Timberwolves started to pull away by scoring the first seven points of the third, all of which came from Love. The Timberwolves held that double-digit lead most of the third and went to the fourth carrying a 73-62 edge.

LA came only as close as 10 points in the last quarter.

"We took a pounding on the boards and we weren't able to make open shots," said Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. "The board differential was impossible to overcome."

Game Notes
