NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at New Jersey
(Sunday, April 5th)
Final Score: New Jersey 96, Philadelphia 67
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets had seven players score in double figures in a 96-67 rout of the 76ers to earn their first ever season sweep of Philadelphia despite being eliminated from playoff contention.
Vince Carter paced the win with 15 points and Bobby Simmons scored 14 for the Nets, who had lost six of seven coming in to otherwise seal their playoff fate as Detroit's win against Charlotte earlier in the day made it official.
Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, Jarvis Hayes and Chris Douglas-Roberts each posted 13 points in the victory.
"All-around it was a good effort," said Harris. "We just want to give ourselves a chance; it's about focusing on our effort. We haven't really talked about where we are in the standings."
Lou Williams was the only 76er in double figures with 14 points as Philadelphia shot just 35.1 percent from the field in what was a lopsided affair early on.
"We couldn't really shoot the ball tonight it was just one of those nights where we weren't scoring points," Sixers head coach Tony DiLeo said. "Besides the first quarter we weren't really in the game tonight. It's one of those games we're going to forget about and move on to the next one."
The Sixers clinched a postseason berth with a win over Detroit on Saturday but missed out on an opportunity to improve their standing in the Eastern Conference.
The Sixers were locked in a virtual tie with Miami for the fifth spot in the East and fell a half-game back of the Heat and 2 1/2 games behind Atlanta for the fourth seed. Willie Green and Samuel Dalembert both had nine points in the blowout loss.
Philadelphia had won three straight and six of eight coming in.
The 76ers missed their first nine shots of the game but recovered to take a 20-18 edge into the second quarter, where their struggles continued with just a half-dozen field goals to trail by 11, 50-39, at halftime.
The Nets extended their lead to 20, 64-44, on back-to-back three-pointers from Hayes and Carter close to halfway through the third and took a 68-51 lead into the final stanza.
Five straight points from Douglas-Roberts increased the lead to 83-61 just past the midway point of the fourth and New Jersey never looked back in an easy victory.
The Nets finished the season series 4-0 against Philadelphia...Harris also had seven rebounds and as many assists in the win while Keyon Dooling notched 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers...Dalembert and Reggie Evans both had 11 rebounds in the setback...It was both Philadelphia's lowest scoring output of the season and New Jersey's best points-against performance this year.
