NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Miami
(Saturday, January 31st)
Final Score: Dallas 111, Miami 96
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki dropped 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks continued their mastery of the Miami Heat with a 111-96 win, their ninth consecutive regular-season victory in the series.
Jason Terry netted 20 points and Jason Kidd dished out a game-best 11 assists to go with seven points and five boards for Dallas, which has won three of its last four.
"Dirk is a guy, that because he is so great, I think we take him for granted sometimes. He made 12-of-14 (field goals) against a top defensive team look pretty easy. He was great and really good defensively," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said.
Josh Howard had 15 points and six rebounds while both Brandon Bass and Jose Barea chipped in 11 points apiece in the win.
Dwyane Wade equaled Nowitzki with 30 points and Michael Beasley logged 18 points and 10 rebounds, but the Heat lost for a second straight game following a three-game win streak.
"They wouldn't miss," Wade said of the sharp-shooting Mavs. "This is one of those games that our best game would have trouble winning tonight. This is the best I've seen a team shoot the ball."
Mario Chalmers checked in with 17 points and Chris Quinn 10 in the setback.
Miami hasn't beaten the Mavs in the regular season since a 119-118 overtime win on March 26, 2004.
Dallas held a 24-15 lead after 12 minutes but a 10-2 run late in the second helped Miami inch to within four, 45-41, as Chalmers capped the spurt with a three-pointer. A Howard layup and subsequent Nowitzki jump shot just before halftime put the Mavs up eight, 57-49, heading into the second half.
The Mavs took control of the game in the third quarter. Back-to-back triples by Nowitzki and Kidd came in the midst of an early 10-2 run that saw the visitors take a 71-56 lead. Dallas then closed the frame with eight straight points and took an 18-point advantage into the final stanza.
The Heat quickly fell behind by 24 points as Terry sank a pair of jumpers and Bass delivered another to open the fourth and Miami was never able to cut the deficit below double digits from there.
The Mavericks kicked off a quick two-game tour of Florida with the win and will visit Orlando on Monday...Dallas moved to 13-12 as the visitor on the year...Miami, which is now 15-8 as the host on the year, will finish a two- game homestand by hosting the LA Clippers on Monday...Miami's Daequan Cook left the game late in the fourth quarter with a bruised left thigh.
